Frequently Asked Questions

I've never done this - what if I'm rubbish?

Art is subjective and you will soon see that every person has a different idea of what good art is. In these supportive, non judgemental classes, there is no expectation to "perform". The idea is to come and have fun in a relaxing, arty environment. I have absolute beginners join all the time and the classes are designed to get the best out of you wherever you are in your art journey.

I'm a seasoned artist - are these classes going to be too easy for me?

These are mostly classes for a more beginner/rising beginner but I have a range of experience and ability in my classes and there is the intermediate class. Please do get in contact with some examples of your work so I can direct you to the right group or workshop if you aren't sure where would be best for you.

What should I bring?

For every class you will need a sketch book, drawing pencils, rubber and ruler. After your first class you will also need some paints. This can be watercolour or acrylics, along with the right paper and brushes plus a water pot or two. If you aren't sure about what to buy/bring do get in touch as I am always happy to help. I do have a small supply of paints that you can try once or twice to see what you prefer. You can also book a workshop first, where materials are provided.

What should I wear?

Art is messy. Always wear old clothes and an apron.

Why do I have to book and pay in advance?

My classes take a lot of my time, energy and money as well as my expertise. When I run "pay as you go" I run the risk of booking a venue, getting insurance, creating a class and then running it for 3 people at a loss. As much as I'd love to teach for free, I can't afford to, so I have tried to create a system that works for me and my students. I also carefully control student numbers so I know I can give everyone enough attention.

What if I miss a lesson?

For the same reasons as above I can not refund if you miss a class. However you can come to another class to "make up" the lesson and I will also give you any handouts from the class you missed at the next class you come to.

Why don't you supply materials?

Art materials for 10-20 people are really expansive and I would have to increase the cost of the classes dramatically. If you want to "try before you buy" do book onto a Workshop or Event or the Tuesday Class where the materials are included.

I have accessibility/mobility needs. Can I still come?

Every body is welcome. Please be aware that venues differ so it's best to check by arranging with me to pop into a class before you sign up to check it will work for you. Painting and drawing are by nature visual but do contact me to discuss any needs/questions that you have around the classes. I can't promise I can solve every issue but I will try and help.

I run an Art Group and would love for you to come and teach.

I teach other groups and classes as a paid tutor. Do contact me to discuss your needs.

I can't do any of the dates/times above. What else have you got?

You can always arrange for a Private Coaching session, arrange your own Art Party at home or attend the Workshops. You can let me know what dates/times/places would work for you. I'm always evolving and will add/change classes so do sign up for the Newsletter and keep up to date.
